Principal’s Message

The football world cup has kicked off and we have started our own football themed events at school.

Each class has ‘adopted’ one of the competing nations and will be following their progress through the tournament. Come on New Zealand!!!!!

END OF YEAR PARENT CONFERENCES

As we did last year, we will be holding individual parent/teacher meetings in July once our final assessments are completed later in June. These are optional, and if you want to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss progress, please speak to them directly to arrange a time.

Lunchtime Theme Days

Our lunchtime theme days have been really popular and now we are asking the pupils what they would like to do on Wednesday lunchtimes. The school council will pick the best suggestion from the pupils.

Attendance

We all know how important regular attendance is. If children aren’t in school, they will miss out on important learning.

I know sometimes children are genuinely to ill to come to school, but if they only have a minor cold or cough it is find to send them in. There’s some good advice here from the NHS if you’re ever not sure.

From this week, we will be sending out weekly messages via MCAS with your child’s attendance percentage for the year to date. 90% may sound like high attendance, but over the course of a whole school year, it’s equal to FOUR WEEKS of missed school!

Academy Council

We had our final Academy Council meeting of the year this week. The things discussed are on our school website – use the link below to read what was covered.

RC – Dawoud: Dawoud is receiving an Integrity award for always following instructions and setting a fantastic example to his class mates.
Well done!

1E – Yahya and Anas: Double community value!! This week I am nominating Yahya and Anas! They always help to keep 1E organised and tidy. Every week, without being asked they offer to tidy and organise the stationary pots on the class tables. They always pay close attention and ensure each pot has an equal amount of resources. Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it.

1I – Umar: Well done for trying your very best in all your lessons. We are very proud of your efforts. Keep it up!

2C – Yasar: Excellence – We are all so proud of how hard you been working in your Read Write and Phonics lessons. Anne says you are a pleasure to teach and we are so happy with all you have achieved. Well done!

2E – Joud: Joud deserves the value of community because she supported her friends so well during Sports Day and ran twice for her team.

2I – Khaira: You are always so well behaved. You always make the right choices and set a great example. Well done!

3E – Aatif: Community – Aatif has been nice to others in the playground, always including others in games and being nice to the people around him.

3I – Adiyan: Integrity – Adiyan had found something that was valuable to someone else and handed it in to the nearest member of staff. He displays trustworthiness and integrity both inside and outside of class. Well done Adiyan.

4E – Yacqoob: Yacqoob – Well done for being a Superstar in PE this week. You listened well, followed instructions and worked well in your team. Keep it up!

5C – Anika: You worked hard this week to express the meaning of words. It is lovely to see your progress. Keep up the good work Anika.

5I – Afizah: Congratulations Afizah for becoming the champion of the hula hoop OFPAPLOC. With patience and hard work you brought the first place to 5I, making this one, our second victory. We are so proud of you. Claudia.

6E – Jenny-Jayne: Jenny-Jayne, your writing on how to recognise and avoid a real witch was an absolute masterpiece of witchology! You captured Roald Dahl’s spooky, funny style perfectly, using brilliant vocabulary to detail everything from their bald heads to their curved razor-sharp talons. The Grand High Witch wouldn’t stand a chance against your clever survival tips, and you should be incredibly proud of how you brought such marvellous, eerie energy to the page.

6I – Sumaiya: Sumaiya, you have shown outstanding character and kindness during the hula hoop competition week. Even though you were competing, you took the time to teach and encourage younger students so they could improve their skills. This shows leadership and true sportsmanship. Well done for being such a positive role model in our school!

Online safety

We are still getting reports of pupils on social media apps such as Snapchat.

As you know, an important part of our curriculum is teaching pupils about esafety. We know that a lot of our pupils spend a lot of their time online, either through online gaming or on social media apps. This can sometimes lead to contact with inappropriate people
and/or exposure to inappropriate language. We strongly recommend that you monitor your children’s usage of the internet and that you are aware of what they are doing online.

Most social media apps have an age limit of 13+. If you are allowing your children to access these apps you are putting them at risk!

Start and end of the day

Please remember that there are no staff on duty in the playgrounds before and after school so parents/carers should supervise their own children. Children should not be playing with balls or on the climbing frames.

To keep children safe please do not park on the double yellow or zig-zag lines when you are collecting or dropping off. Tower Hamlets parking enforcement officers are conducting regular patrols in the area.

When collecting your child at the end of the day please wait until all pupils are in their lines before speaking to the teacher and collecting your child. We need to make sure that all of our pupils go home with the right adult!

Unauthorised Absences in Term Time

We follow government guidance on term time holidays and we do not authorise pupil holidays during term time. We encourage parents/carers to take their holidays during one of the scheduled holiday breaks.

You can be fined or face legal action for taking your child on holiday during term time.
